Garage to Garden Shed!

The garage. The holy grail of broken rakes, rusty tool boxes, knotted rope, runaway nails, cracked pots, deflated balls, missing garden tools, and oh so much more. That clean-it-once-a-year, pray-it's-good-enough, hide-it-from-the-book club room that you have no idea what to do with. Imagine it for a second.
Now close your eyes and imagine a place where rakes and shovels stand up in tidy rows and scissors and twine hang neatly on pegs. A room where there's a place for everything and everything is in its place. Twelve steps can turn your garage into a garden shed full of unique ideas and vintage touches.

1) Tame the twine! A cute iron dispenser that hangs from a hook can keep your twine in line.

2) The seed sorter! Borrow grandma's old wood card catalog or any recipe box and keep seed packets organized.

3) Tack in the box! An old tool or tackle box is the perfect place to store twist ties, nails, tape, scissors, and other knick knacks that tend to get lost.

4) The saucer safe! To avoid cracked and broken flowerpot saucers, start searching for a vintage dish drainer (commonly found at garage sales and flea markets) to keep all your saucers in order.

5) Burlap baskets! By lining baskets with burlap or jute, it's simple to hide all manner of tools and toys away and keep your shed looking neat and organized.

6) The Candle Crate! An old fashioned soda-pop crate is perfect for holding pillar candles and gives off a warm farm-house feel.

7) The Tool Tote! Store small tools, plant markers, stakes, and other garden necessities in the perfectly sized slots of a handled carpenter caddy.

8) The Bird feed Bottle! Instead of recycling your glass bottles, re-use them as easy-to-store seed or bird food containers that line the shelves.

9) Lovely Labels! Keep every thing organized by creating custom labels. Antique paper by staining it with tea or coffee, then cut out squares, circles, birds, anything you like, and presto! A home-made label!

10) Chalk talk! Change the contents of boxes without having to make new labels. Buy boxes with chalk board fronts, or use chalkboard paint to create custom chalk board boxes!

11) Pegs, pegs, pegs! Leave your floor clear of tools by hanging them! Two closely placed pegs make it possible to hang tools like shovels, brooms, and rakes by their heads. Hang boots the same way!

12) Give me the dirt! Plastic soil bags are not only unattractive, but they fall over and spill, leaving an unwanted mess. Use containers such as small trash cans to keep your garden shed clean and organized.
